Split tape online or instore

Thursday 2 September 2010
Reported by Warwick Smith

The Orbits/Killing Birds split tapes (with MP3s) are now available to order from our online store. The split is also exclusively sold at our friends Smiths Alternative Bookshop in Canberra.

Since the bands, including HEEEY! burnt up the Phoenix Pub's stage (metaphorically speaking) there has been a good demand for the tape, however only limited editions exist and there will more than likely not be a reprint of these tracks.

The Phoenix punters on launch night were treated to a few surprises.

Firstly Orbits (that's me) "pensive and psychadelic post-rock" (FasterLouder) set was quickly modified into a raging swell of sounds and driving drumming with the addition of Leon Twardy on drums. Leon featured on previous EP 'Little Monster' on the monolithic track Scale The Moon.

Following this treat Killing Birds sported a new drummer and second guitarist who carried more of a sludgy shoegaze tone opting out of the more rock n roll grunge sets of their past sounds.

The tape online is only $5 plus postage, so don't miss out on this very limited tape and note if you order online from our store you get access to the MP3s and whatever else I can stuff into an envelope.

Here is the track listing for you enthusiasts:

Side A / Killing Birds (13:02)
1. Plume
2. On The Lips
3. Cold Vein
4. Purr

Side B / Orbits (14.20)
1. In
2. Why why
3. The Throw Down

Electric Lake II: Return to the Lake

Thursday 12 August 2010
Reported by Warwick Smith

Electric Lake II is a free outdoor show and BYO picnic presented by a small band of enthusiastic musicians and Birds Love Fighting Records and Canberra Musicians Club. It will be held Saturday 16 October 2010, from dead on midday and into the night.

Located amongst the flora and fauna of Commonwealth Park's amphitheatre the organisers main vision is to showcase some of Canberra's best live, thriving, emerging and original music to an audience of all ages. There will also be a collection of zines and merchandise available for you to get your grubby mits on.

The first Electric Lake was held in March 2010 and was a great day with eight bands such as Old Ace, Beat Hotel, Assassins 88, The Fighting League and others having lots of room to do their thing.

The line up this time around includes even more bands:

Jonny Telafone (MLB)
Kasha
Horse Macgyver
Heute-und
Danger Beach
Waterford
The Warm Jets
Jerkstore
Killing Birds
Mornings
Julia & the Deep Sea Sirens
From The South
Voss
Cat Cat

You can keep an active eye on the line up, watch videos, hear the music, spread the word and learn more by a visit to the Electric Lake II website.
